Medication used in the treatment of Psychological Eating Disorders
What you should know before taking medication !

Our research clearly indicates that medication plays a very important part in the recovery process. Medication should
NOT be seen as the ultimate towards recovery, rather a contribution to assist the person suffering from the disorder to cope with his/her emotional feelings during the disorder and while undergoing treatment.

Medication should be taken as directed, and not abused. The intake of alcohol while on any medication can lead to serious medical complications, we therefore strongly recommend that NO alcohol should be taken while on any medication.
Certain medications used in the treatment of Psychological Eating Disorders take several weeks (approximately six weeks) before they reach optimum performance (Kicks in). Do not expect immediate results.

Never terminate medication without consulting your Physician, the results may cause medical complications. We have also found in our research, uncontrolled termination may cause severe depression and sadly the same medication may not work the second time around.

Some medication requires that your Physician checks your blood pressure from time to time. Remember it is essentially important that you keep appointments and have your self checked out as requested by your Physician.

Although medication does contribute towards recovery it may also cause certain side effects. In most cases these side effects terminate within the first six weeks of taking the medication. However, discuss all side effects with your Physician prior and during the period of taking medication.

In general medication should be seen as a short term treatment, on average several months to a year. However it should be noted that the severity of the illness and progress towards recovery may determine the dosage and length of time that medication may be required.

Medication is not the ultimate to recovery, it is a important contribution towards recovery !
