'THE
UNKNOWN WORLD'®
Behind Psychological Eating Disorders
About the Book.
Over
the past years, psychological eating disorders have increased drastically.
As we enter the new millennium we believe that Anorexia, Bulimia and
Psychological Obese will increase drastically and reach further epidemic
levels . New research has indicated that children as young as five have
become extremely weight conscious throughout western cultured countries
and therefore the age of onset of Psychological Eating Disorders has
increased in children as young as eight - a frightening thought.
Over the past nine years our group Director Ron Heymann has personally
interviewed and assisted over four hundred sufferers, and eight hundred
family members towards their recovery. In 1992 he started the Anorexia
and Bulimia Family support group and affiliated the group to the National
Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders in Illinois
- U.S.A. and two years later was appointed state coordinator.
Ron personally co-ordinates weekly support group meetings that are well
attended and has contributed towards many that have recovered from this
disorder. Over the past few years, he has become active internationally
and has assisted both family members and sufferers throughout the world.
Many books have been written on Anorexia and Bulimia, by those that
treat the illness and those that have suffered from the illness. Although
these books are informative, many do not contain specific information
on how you can confront the eating disorder and handle specific situations.
The symptoms of the illness effects emotions of those close to the person
suffering from the disorder and often chaotic situations do arise. These
chaotic situations compound and cause further distress.
Sadly, to-date many believe that psychological eating disorders is primarily
a food issue and often labeled as being self inflicted. Health insurance
limits funding for treatment, and those that suffer from the illness
often abuse that funding. At what point does treatment begin?
Ron, with his vast knowledge of this complicated illness and his assistant
Bev Kaplan have now compiled and written a handbook. The handbook
provides detailed information on all types of topics associated with
Psychological Eating Disorders. From the onset of the illness, up to
recovery. The Handbook is also suitable for school libraries as well
as projects for primary and tertiary educational institutions.

can play a positive role in recovery.
- Have
you ever wondered why your child, relation or friend developed a Psychological
Eating Disorder and why others don't. So what is the cause ?

that food weight and image are only the symptoms of the disorder.

can they not see what they are doing to themselves?

have had enough of this disorder, all I want to do right now is recover,
I do not know how and where to start - please help me?
- Do
you find that no matter what you say or do it always seems to be wrong

back. Am I a failure and what can I do to get out of this mess?
- Everyone
is on my case, I wish they would all back off. What can I say to them
without hurting their feelings?
- I
am eating normally now. Is this disorder over?
- I
wish I could share this with my parents and friends yet I feel so
guilty and ashamed telling them.
- Why
are we all so scared to say anything to the person suffering from
the illness? Every time we approach the subject tempers fly.
- I
feel so low, what is the point of living. I have tried so hard and
I do not see a way out of this mess. Is there a way out that I have
